Frequently Asked
Questions
What is a Commercial EICR?
An Electrical Installation Condition Report records the inspection and testing of a fixed electrical installation, its condition and recommended actions.
What does the inspection cover?
The agreed scope may include distribution boards, protective devices, earthing and bonding, accessible fixed wiring and final circuits, with appropriate electrical tests.
Will the power need to be switched off?
Some circuits need temporary isolation for testing. Discuss servers, refrigeration, alarms and other business-critical systems before the visit.
How often should I arrange an EICR?
There is no universal interval. The installation’s use, condition, environment and maintenance history matter. Use the next inspection date on your current report to guide planning.
Does an EICR include PAT testing?
No. An EICR assesses fixed electrics. PAT testing covers portable electrical appliances and is a separate service.
What happens if the report is unsatisfactory?
It means observations require remedial action, rather than necessarily replacing the whole installation. The report explains priorities; keep follow-up certification with the original report.
What information is needed for a quote?
Provide the site address, premises type, approximate number of boards or circuits, operating hours and any access or isolation restrictions.
